taking flight is a typography-dependent book, written to appreciate one of the most formative courses of my college career: an art class that showed me how community and art could be intertwined. i chose to communicate this message through the metaphor of a bird learning to fly for the first time, breaking through the familiarity to take flight.
the body text at the beginning creates a tight, cramped feeling for the reader, then slowly expands and increases in size as they flip through the pages - to illustrate the feeling (specifically the satisfaction and reflection) that personal growth brings.
the physical book is a smaller size intended to create intimacy and bound with thread to reveal the spine, reflecting vulnerability. the images featured in the book are all created through cyanotyping - a slow printing process that requires the sun and some patience.
